Porter Airlines is currently recruiting for the role of Purser, In-Flight Services, based at Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW). This is a key leadership position reporting to the Manager of In-Flight Services. The YOW-based Purser is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of both passengers and flight attendants on board, while also maintaining a high standard of service throughout the flight.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Purser, In-Flight Services, you will be responsible to the Captain for duties related to passenger safety and comfort, as well as the supervision of Flight Attendants. You will manage the onboard service and monitor the performance of the Flight Attendants, ensuring their proficiency in safety knowledge and maintaining the highest standards of service on every flight. You will work to achieve a comfortable working environment for the crew and a pleasant travel experience for passengers. Your responsibilities also include handling in-flight documentation related to the flight, obtaining necessary flight details and relaying them to the Flight Attendants, and carrying out any duties assigned by the Captain concerning passenger safety and relations. You will assume responsibility for Flight Attendants during assignments away from the home base, ensure adherence to Porter’s Brand and Service Standards, and mentor, coach, and motivate Cabin Crew to uphold the highest standards of safety and premium service delivery onboard. Additionally, you will actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS), including reporting hazards and incidents encountered during daily operations, along with any other duties assigned by the Manager, In-Flight Services.
Requirements
The successful candidate must be a minimum of 19 years of age at the time of employment and have completed secondary school. Fluency in English is required, while fluency in French is considered a preferred asset. A minimum of one year of experience as a flight attendant is required, along with at least three years of experience working with the public in a customer service role. Previous work experience as an In-Charge Flight Attendant is considered an asset. Candidates must hold a current, valid Canadian passport or an international passport with a valid US Crewmember Visa (C-1/D). The ability to obtain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) and successfully complete the company screening process is essential. Candidates must meet required medical standards, including passing a drug test. Proven leadership skills, superior communication and interpersonal abilities, and excellent process analysis and problem-solving skills are also required. A safety-first mindset is essential. The candidate must successfully pass Initial Flight Attendant Training and maintain qualifications to operate as a Purser. Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills are necessary, along with the ability to proactively follow up and provide constructive feedback. Excellent safety and customer service knowledge is expected, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team is important. Pursers must be able to report to the airport within two hours of callout and must be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
