Description
Gulf Air is looking for an Inflight Catering Officer to support Inflight Services operations both at the base and across its outstation network. The role involves ensuring that catering standards are maintained, policies are followed at all catering centers, and the AirServ system is operated efficiently by accurately entering meal uplifts and required equipment. The ideal candidate will also contribute to cost reduction, enhanced efficiency, and minimization of catering service wastage.
Key Responsibilities:
As an Inflight Catering Officer, you will ensure that all on- or off-schedule flights are catered and equipped to Gulf Air standards, both at base and for return sectors. You will physically check and verify equipment loading and offloading on aircraft, inspect production materials, and prepare uplift for all Gulf Air flights. Liaising with the catering contractor at BAH station, you will ensure they understand and fulfill their service level obligations, while also ensuring monthly stock returns are submitted to protect the company’s interests. You will highlight any visible food specification, standard, or hygiene issues to the Products, Hygiene, and Standards department, and ensure that all products provided by catering contractors are prepared, stored, and transported under hygienically acceptable conditions. Any deviations must be documented, reported, corrected, and communicated to headquarters. You will support the wider Inflight Services department by liaising with flight attendants, airports, engineering, and cleaning departments during shifts for regular operational reviews. You will coordinate with specific outstations for extra or off-schedule operations, arrange appropriate uplifts, and retrieve surplus Gulf Air equipment. Additionally, you will submit shift reports to the Catering Operations Controller, including reviews of target issues, offload analysis, interdepartmental discussions, and any shortages. You will maintain and understand Inflight Services manuals and ensure comprehensive knowledge of Gulf Air products at the catering station. You will check and act upon all mail and telex correspondence, monitor the DCS and AirServ systems for flight passenger figures, special meals, and catering estimates, and respond promptly to urgent communications. For return sector flights catered ex-BAH, you will ensure telex notification of the actual catering onboard. You will constantly monitor operational changes in AirServ or via telex, especially those relating to flight delays and cancellations, and take prompt action to inform caterers to revise catering accordingly and avoid unnecessary charges. You will check, record, and save all final catering figures supplied by caterers into the AirServ AMOS system. You will establish systems to minimize meal wastage by working closely with GF Reservations, Ground Services, Catering Contractors, and through effective use of the AirServ system. You will control the usage and prevent misuse of GF assets and stored materials at the catering unit by implementing and maintaining proper storage records and AirServ inventory systems. You will physically verify and check equipment, bond, and dry store inventories, and submit weekly and monthly stock returns to headquarters with full documentation via the AirServ system. You will arrange and forward relevant menu and wine cards to respective catering stations as per the menu cycle rotation. Due to cargo constraints, you will liaise with caterers to cabin-load items in small quantities by repacking equipment into meal carts and forwarding them to outstations, ensuring service continuity by coordinating with BAH Customs for approval and sending necessary telex notifications to concerned stations. You will certify catering invoices, approximately BD 300,000 per month, by physically checking ordered meal counts and ancillary services provided for Gulf Air flights, supported by proper documentation. You will also perform any additional tasks, assignments, and projects as directed by Bahrain Headquarters.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have the equivalent of HND level education, be fluent in English, and knowledge of Arabic and French is desirable. Candidates should have basic computer knowledge, preferably Microsoft Office. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the catering industry is required, with at least 2 years at a supervisory level in aircraft catering. Exposure to all departmental structures within inflight services design, development, and delivery is essential.
