Ground Crew, Sky-High Impact: Staff Assistant I, Inflight – Based at JFK or LGA, New York!

American Airlines is looking for a organized, people-friendly, and solution-oriented Staff Assistant to join our Inflight team at our New York City hubs—John F. Kennedy International (JFK) and LaGuardia (LGA). If you enjoy keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes while interacting directly with the Flight Attendants who make our magic happen in the air, this role offers a rewarding entry point into one of the world's largest airlines.

You won't be flying, but you'll be essential to every flight we operate. From managing crew room logistics to troubleshooting tablets and supporting daily operations, you will help our Inflight crew stay focused on what they do best: taking care of our passengers.

What You'll Be Doing Day to Day?

This is a dynamic, hands-on role based primarily at our Crew Service Centers. No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's a sense of what your typical day might include:

    • Being a welcoming and helpful point of contact for Flight Attendants who stop by with questions, concerns, or requests—whether in person or over the phone.
    • Handling administrative essentials like processing expense reimbursements, sorting mail, and coordinating FedEx shipments.
    • Providing technical support for crew tablets, ensuring our Flight Attendants have working devices before they head to the gate.
    • Helping coordinate practical needs such as Flight Attendant parking assignments and Crew identification cards.
    • Keeping crew rooms well-stocked with supplies and maintaining the digital bulletin boards so information stays current and clear.
    • Working side by side with Operations Coordinators to support the broader Inflight operation, stepping in to handle administrative tasks when Coordinators are unavailable.
    • Making sure office and crew room computers, printers, and other equipment are in good working order—and troubleshooting when they're not.

    What We're Looking For?

You don't need a college degree to succeed here, but you do need solid experience and good judgment.

    Minimum qualifications:

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
    • At least two years of hands-on experience with PC systems, Sabre, DECS, and RES.

Preferred qualifications (not required, but a strong plus):

    • Previous experience in Inflight or Crew Scheduling roles.

Skills and attributes that will help you thrive:

    • The ability to use independent judgment and make smart decisions without someone standing over your shoulder.
    • Familiarity with working alongside contract labor groups and understanding those dynamics.
    • Flexibility with scheduling—you must be willing to work all shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays) and rotate shifts or days off as needed.
    • Willingness to complete FAA criminal background checks to qualify for unescorted access to secure airport areas (SIDA), where applicable.

Why You'll Love Working at American Airlines?

We take care of our people, and we want you to feel supported from day one.

    • Travel Perks: You, your family, and your friends can explore more than 365 destinations across our global network—on over 6,800 daily flights. The world becomes a lot smaller when you work with us.
    • Health Benefits: Starting on your very first day, you'll have access to medical, dental, prescription, and vision coverage. We also offer virtual doctor visits and flexible spending accounts.
    • Wellness Programs: We're invested in helping you be your best self, with tools, resources, and support designed for your physical and mental well-being.
    • 401(k) Program: You can enroll as soon as you're hired. Depending on your workgroup, employer contributions become available after one year.
    • Extra Perks: Employee Assistance Program, pet insurance, and discounts on hotels, rental cars, cruises, and more.

    Compensation

This role offers an hourly rate between $17 and $22, depending on experience and qualifications.
