Your Journey Begins with World-Class Training
Your United journey starts with the best Flight Attendant training in the industry. You'll spend 6.5 weeks attending Initial Training in Houston, Texas, where you'll learn United's safety and service standards. During training, you'll be assigned to one of our hubs or other flight attendant base locations (relocation funds are not provided).
Upon successful completion of training and base orientation, you'll be officially welcomed as a full-time United employee. While in training, you'll receive:
- A stipend of $140 per week
- Dual occupancy hotel accommodations
- Breakfast and either lunch or dinner (dependent on your training schedule)
- A $1,000 bonus upon successful graduation
What We're Looking For?
To join our team, you'll need to meet the following qualifications:
Basic Requirements:
- 21 years of age or older at time of application
- High school graduate or GED (2+ years of college preferred)
- At least one year of customer service experience in the service industry (retail, hospitality, food service, teaching/education, aviation, social service, etc.)
Language Skills:
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently
- Must be able to read and speak German fluently
Communication & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and loudly enough to be heard in an emergency
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound
- Effectively communicate in high-stress situations (aircraft evacuation, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather, turbulence)
- Professional appearance with excellent grooming standards
- Willingness to follow uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines
- Tattoo policy: No tattoos on head, hands, fingers, or neck (including back of neck and on, in, or behind the ear). Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted but must not exceed the size of a credit card/employee badge (3.5" x 2.24") unless covered by standard uniform pieces. Tattoos must not be offensive (violent, obscene, sexual, racist, or containing objectionable content or weapons imagery)
- No decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth
- Ability to proficiently operate electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.)
Travel & Documentation:
- Must possess a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas and eligibility to travel globally without restrictions
- Passport must have at least 12 months of remaining validity at time of application, along with two consecutive blank pages
- Having applied for or waiting for a renewed passport is not sufficient—you must have it in your possession prior to training
- Ability to travel to and from all countries United serves without restrictions
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Physical Capabilities:
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (such as luggage to overhead bin or window exit), and push/pull beverage cart (up to 250 lbs.)
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold (simultaneously), without shoes
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened
- Required to serve and/or sell food and beverages (including alcohol) professionally
Schedule Flexibility:
- Willing and able to work a flexible schedule in support of United's 24/7 operation
- Available to work weekdays, weekends, holidays, etc. on scheduled/reserve days

What to Expect During Onboarding and Training:
- Must successfully complete an evacuation drill in the water (pool) during training
- Must complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests
- Must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens (medical and recreational marijuana is prohibited due to safety-sensitive nature of the role)
- Must pass a 10-year background check. Your background must not prohibit travel to or from anywhere United flies
- Note: Canada has strict inadmissible classifications for DWI/DUI charges. If you've been on probation or convicted of a DWI/DUI within the last 10 years, you may require a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) to continue work duties
- Must meet FAA and United hearing and vision requirements (hearing loss not greater than 40 dB at 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz; each eye 20/40 or better corrected)
